Dan Camarillo’s downtown Bakersfield BJJ studio was where the action happened a little after 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening. The BJJ and Judo black-belt heard a crash and went outside, there witnesses told him the suspect was running away.
“I decided to chase him down, he ran out of gas at the corner of the block, I put him in a hold but he started kind of resisting. I grabbed him here and held this arm tight, and he started to say, no no no. He rolled and I put my weight on him, and i just sat on him pulling his arm tight,” Dan recounts the events of the evening.

Coach Camarillo was describing the moments after taking down a fleeing suspect, following a high speed chase that ended in a crash near his BJJ academy.
“I have been training since I was four,” said Camarillo, and this was an opportunity for his BJJ students to see how jiu-jitsu can come in handy.
Police have arrested and charged the suspect on multiple felony charges. Camarillo was just happy to be in the right place, at the right time. “I always tell everybody you never know when your going to need it.”
