Las Vegas: It’s official! Endurance BJJ Attending IBJJF Master World Championships with a team of ten total students from the IBJJA affiliation of teams from Indiana. All will be traveling to Las Vegas for Friday, September the 25th to compete in the IBJJF Master World Championships! This even runs through Saturday the 26th at the Cashman Center and will be drawing thousands of competitors and fans from all over the world. The IBJJF Master World Championship is a keynote annual event in the international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community. Over the course of two days, several hundred students will be competing, spanning the full range of age categories, weight classes, ranks, and competitive experience levels. Spectators will bear witness to some of the finest competitive martial arts on display anywhere in the world. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu saw its inception in the late nineteenth century, when it first separated from its parent discipline of Judo.

In the early 1990s, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie won the first, second, and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships, thereby kick-starting a sudden and meteoric international interest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The IBJJF has since worked hard promoting the virtues of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a form of self-defense, a combat sport, and an excellent means of building physical fitness, confidence, and self-discipline in young athletes. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is currently a competitive MMA staple, and is largely credited with being responsible for emphasizing the importance of “ground fighting” – fighting while prone, often reliant upon grappling – within the MMA community.

Among those representing Endurance Training Center will be Monica Nakatsuka, who recently earned a silver medal in Chicago after concluding a two-year break from the tournament circuit. Monica currently coaches the Endurance woman’s classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as the center’s yoga classes. We’re excited to have her representing us at the IBJJF’s prestigious championship event. This is an excellent opportunity for us to display the very best of what we have to offer in regards to talent. Monica just came off of a great tournament in Chicago a few weeks ago and she’s ready. She embodies the core values in which we believe. Her strength of character, dedication, self-discipline have all prepared her. The whole team is excited.
Perhaps most importantly, everybody understands that we’re all part of a team. That’s how we’re going in, and that’s how we’ll be leaving. I have a good feeling about this tournament, and I’m confident that each member of the team will give 110%. We’ll be leaving Las Vegas with an experience under our belts, one of which every one of the IBJJA members can be proud!
